The brief
Bespoke designed African inspired grasslands
Recursive were appointed to carry out Needs Analysis and Scheme design for the AV requirements at Chester Zoo’s new Grasslands project. The brief set was to design technology systems covering the bespoke designed African inspired grasslands education and hospitality building at Chester Zoo as part of their long-term goal to “Zone” the Zoo.

The challenge
Engaging and flexible ideas to intrigue and wow visitors
We were tasked with designing interactive projection systems and background audio systems for the grasslands restaurant and education space. We also took the opportunity to look at other more engaging and flexible ideas to intrigue and wow visitors which were presented to the design team at Chester zoo to allow them to consider future expansion and updating of interactive elements within the building.

The Outcome
Scheme design with accurate costs
After attending several design team meetings with multiple stakeholders and providing multiple options for Chester Zoo, the team delivered a detailed scheme design with accurate costs to allow the team to consider the next stage, which unfortunately has been delayed due to the financial implications caused by Covid-19.
