Epic MegaGrant Recipients

UK Based Unreal Developers

What we do

We are experienced Unreal Engine developers building real-time immersive environments, retail flagships, virtual production and interactive demonstrations. In 2020 we were awarded an Epic MegaGrant for our work in exploring the use of Unreal in physical spaces.

Capability

Unreal Engine for the spaces, screens and surfaces where audiences actually meet your brand.

Recursive Digital is a UK design studio with 20+ years of award-winning work in audiovisual, lighting, acoustics and interactive content. We’re Epic MegaGrant recipients for our work bringing Unreal Engine into real-time immersive physical environments, where the digital and physical collide.

We use Unreal for permanent retail installations, virtual production, architectural visualisation, VR demos and interactive experiences. We’re hands-on at every stage: real-time content, hardware integration, AV system design, and on-site delivery.

Epic MegaGrant

Recognised by Epic Games for our Unreal Engine work.

We have been working with Unreal Engine for a few years now, using it to create complex immersive spaces, VR demos and applications, architectural walkthroughs, product renders, concept visualisations and interactive demonstrations. It’s been an incredibly valuable tool to us as a team and we’ve loved every minute of it.

A few months ago we were humbled and excited to discover that one of the most complex projects we have ever undertaken, alongside some excellent partners in 2020, had been listed in the latest official Unreal release documentation right next to “The Mandalorian”.

We are proud to announce that as a result of our work Epic considered us as worthy of joining one of the most prestigious clubs in the digital field, awarding us with an Epic MegaGrant to help us on our journey to expand the Unreal ecosystem into the retail environment where the digital and physical collide. This award will help us to further push the boundaries of what is possible. We can’t wait to see where this goes.

A huge thank you to the Epic team from all at Recursive!

Why Recursive Digital

A UK Unreal studio recognised by Epic, with two decades of experience designing the spaces around the screens.

Epic MegaGrant Recipients

Recognised by Epic Games for pushing Unreal Engine into real-time immersive physical environments. One of a small group of UK studios with this validation.

20+ years, multi-award-winning

Two decades of designing audiovisual, lighting and interactive systems for some of the most demanding brands and venues in the world. Unreal sits inside that wider design capability.

End-to-end, not just code

Our Unreal work sits inside a wider AV, lighting and content system that we design, integrate and commission ourselves. We deliver finished experiences, not just builds.

Common questions

Working with us on Unreal Engine.

What kinds of Unreal projects do we take on?

Permanent retail installations and brand flagships, virtual production for film and broadcast, architectural visualisation, immersive product launches, VR experiences, interactive demos and concept visualisations. We work direct to brand, alongside experiential agencies, and as part of larger AV integration teams.

What does the Epic MegaGrant mean?

Epic MegaGrants are awarded by Epic Games to teams doing exceptional work with Unreal Engine. Recursive Digital received one for our work pushing Unreal into real-time immersive physical retail environments. It’s a public validation from the makers of Unreal that our approach is genuinely advancing what the engine can do.

What does Unreal integrate with for live installations?

Real-time video out via NDI/SDI, DMX/Art-Net for synchronised lighting, OSC/MIDI for show control, sensor and tracking systems, TouchDesigner for content composition, and bespoke hardware integration. We design the whole technology stack, not just the Unreal layer.

Are you available for ongoing support?

Yes. Many of our Unreal installations run continuously in retail and venue contexts. We provide remote monitoring, content updates, engine version migrations, and on-site support contracts to keep them performing for years after delivery.
